Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl: Memphis Tigers (10-2) vs West Virginia Mountaineers (6-6)
Key Facts: Ryan Silverfield has quietly been pretty good in bowl games he is 3-1 in them with his only loss being as the interim coach against Penn State in the 2019 Cotton Bowl, otherwise he has won 3 in a row. West Virginia will be operating with an interim coach after they moved on from Neal Brown. Scooter’s Coffee is a little coffee shop with multiple locations, incidentally I had it for the first time the day before I wrote this. I had one of their red bull drinks and split some cake bites with my wife they were pretty good!
Previous Meetings: It came as a surprise to me but this is a FIRST TIME MATCHUP. It really felt like these programs would have crossed paths by now but they haven’t until now. It’s not a huge distance but West Virginia has only played one other game against a FBS program from Tennessee, a win over the Volunteers in 2018 in Charlotte. Memphis played Marshall 8 times thanks to their shared affiliation in CUSA.
Motivation Edge: All indications early on point to Memphis being the more motivated team, they have a lot of seniors led by Seth Henigan who seem poised to play in this game and want to go out on top. We won’t know until game time what the mindset for West Virginia will be under an interim coach.
