R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl: Georgia Southern Eagles (8-4) vs Sam Houston Bearkats (9-3)
Key Facts: Clay Helton hasn’t been particularly strong in Bowl games despite having a Rose Bowl win to his name. He’s 2-5 in bowl games including losing his last 4 bowl appearances. This is new territory for Sam Houston as this is the first bowl appearance in program history. The Bearkats will be coached by an interim coach after KC Keeler left for Temple.
Previous Meetings: This is a FIRST TIME MATCHUP! These programs have a lot of history at the FCS level but never ended up facing off in the Playoffs. This is also known as the Willie Fritz bowl, he had a big impact as the head coach of both programs.
Motivation Edge: Despite the interim coach situation Sam Houston will be very motivated to get their first bowl game and reach 10 wins this season. Georgia Southern will be pretty excited to be here as well but it’s hard to tell what to expect from them.
