Head Coach: Tim Beck is entering his 3rd season as the head coach of the Chanticleers with a 14-12 record. He also has a Hawaii bowl win in his 1st season. The Chants have been solid under his watch, but he is hoping last year’s dropoff was a one off rough season.
Program Outlook: Coastal Carolina is a rapidly rising brand in the College Football landscape. They’re the only FBS program with teal as their primary color and it matches perfectly with their location being so close to the beach. This season brings a particular excitement for the Chants as they begin a revolutionary move to offer free concessions during their games, it’s a great move since they’re located in an area that’s heavy on transplants from New York and New England, people who likely don’t have a primary college team. This is a likeable program on the rise.
How does the 2025 Roster look?: Coastal Carolina ranks 92nd in the country returning 48% of their production per Punt and Rally’s returning production rankings. Key players starts with the QB and they have two fascinating options. MJ Morris played very well to finish out 2023 at NC State but spent last year on the bench at Maryland, he’s got a good arm. Emmett Brown was a fun QB at San Jose State last year, he’s accurate and will at least be solid if Morris doesn’t grab the reigns. The Chants will need Jalen John (UMass) from the portal to help out and Ja’Vin Simpkins is someone who could get more involved. The offensive line will return most of their starters so there’s not a lot of rework, but while they did a good job in pass protection they need to open more run lanes. One piece that’s going to help the offense move, is WR Jameson Tucker who is the star, he’s a guy you’ll want to see this year. They went to the portal for help elsewhere. Coastal’s defense will be led by their linebackers Shane Bruce was last year’s leading tackler and it also helps to have Wyatt Gedeon back, he battled injuries last year although he managed to play most games. Sawyer Goram-Welch is a big defensive tack on the inside who will lead the way up front and the portal will help elsewhere. The secondary will be portal heavy as well, the Miami Hurricanes really help out at corner with both Myles Mooyoung and Robby Washington coming over, safety Jacob Robinson (Emory & Henry) is a fascinating playmaker.

2025 Schedule Thoughts: Everyone in the Sun Belt faces a tough schedule because of the depth of the league but Coastal’s is pretty difficult overall. For how awesome and regional the non-conference schedule is, it’s also very difficult. The Chants face Virginia, East Carolina and a late in-state battle with South Carolina. Their FCS foe is Charleston Southern, an in-state FCS team who has struggled lately. The Chants draw ULM and Southern Alabama from the West division in conference play, and at least on the surface that is a draw they’ll happily take.
Final Thoughts: This is a big year for Tim Beck’s Coastal Carolina squad, there were a few moving parts so are they capable of Sun Belt contention or just hoping for a bowl? The first 4 games will show a lot. Coastal’s defense was very good at forcing turnovers, 22 of them last year and maintaining that pace will be critical to their success this year.
