Head Coach: Michael Desormeaux is entering his 4th season as the head coach of the Ragin’ Cajuns with a 23-18 record. Desormeaux hit his breakthrough last season, leading Louisiana to a 10 win season. He was also previously a star QB for the Cajuns back in 2007 and 2008 he starred for the program.
Program Outlook: Louisiana has established themselves as one of the Sun Belt’s best programs. Years back they rebranded to Louisiana as a hope to establish themselves as the top power in the state outside of LSU, Tulane turned out to be really good but there’s enough talent in the state to go around. The Cajuns have everything at their disposal to continue to be one of the Sun Belt’s best.
How does the 2025 Roster look?: Louisiana ranks 110th in the country returning 40% of their production per Punt and Rally’s returning production rankings. Key players starts with the QB and the Ragin’ Cajuns picked up a promising one in Walker Howard, he is a former 5 star recruit, also known as the guy with Brian Kelly in the awkward dancing video a few years back. Howard hasn’t seen the field much because he’s been trapped behind other extremely talented QBs. The Ragin’ Cajuns have some really good backs, both Bill Davis and Tylan Perry return. These two backs will be the stars. The receivers will take a little figuring out, Robert Williams is the most experienced returnee but there’s hope the talented Shelton Sampson (LSU) could emerge as a game breaker for this offense. The offensive line looks really solid up front and there’s good experience back at least with the starters, the depth lacks experience so there’s a lot of risk if there’s any injuries. The Cajuns defense is led by a couple good pass rushers in DE Jordan Lawson and LB Cameron Whitfield, there’s also good players in DT Karadius Miller and LB Jaden Dugger but they really need a pass rush to develop outside of just Lawson/Whitfield. The secondary will be led by safety Tyree Skipper who could be a star, corner Lorenzell Dubose returns but there’s some exciting portal guys coming in with Curley Reed (Washington) and Trae Tomlinson (Richmond).

2025 Schedule Thoughts: Louisiana faces a solid schedule. The non-conference includes a regional foe in Rice, and a long trip to the gray turf at Eastern Michigan. The game at Missouri is a headliner and they have an in-state FCS foe in McNeese who went 6-6 last year. The Sun Belt schedule is challenging, having a Sun Belt title rematch against Marshall and a road game at James Madison is a very challenging draw from the East division. They get Texas State at home but Arkansas State, Troy and South Alabama on the road. It will be challenging for Louisiana to repeat as West Division winners.
Final Thoughts: This is a big year for Louisiana, it took a couple years after Napier to get back to contending now after losing a lot of talent the Ragin’ Cajuns look to show they can remain a top contender in the conference.
